The Canada Truck Operators Association (CTOA) welcomes Ontario’s investment in a new truck inspection station in Hearst and additional passing lanes along Highway 11.
CTOA was pleased to be included in the Ontario Ministry of Transportation’s official announcement, highlighting the importance of northern highways to communities, professional drivers, local businesses and Canada’s supply chain.
“CTOA welcomes this important investment in Northern Ontario highway safety. In the North, Highway 11 is more than a transportation route, it is an economic lifeline for communities, families, workers, truck drivers, local businesses and Canada’s supply chain. A modern truck inspection station in Hearst, combined with new passing lanes, will help improve safety, support fair and consistent enforcement, reduce pressure on professional drivers and keep essential goods moving across the region.”
CTOA supports strong enforcement against unsafe and non-compliant operators while emphasizing that enforcement should be fair, consistent, evidence-based and applied across the industry.
Northern Ontario also presents unique operating realities, including long distances, severe weather, limited passing opportunities, truck parking needs and the importance of dependable highway infrastructure. Investments that improve safety while keeping freight moving are important to both northern communities and the national economy.
CTOA will continue working with governments and industry partners on practical transportation solutions that improve highway safety, strengthen compliance and enforcement, support professional drivers and maintain reliable freight capacity across northern and rural Canada.
